I decided to check out this anime based solely on Yoko Kanno’s involvement. From the first five minutes, the Matrix vibe was so heavy I thought Trinity was going to show up any minute. After the opening ‘homage’, the Matrixy stuff is toned down and reduced to the landscape. It’s a green-hued city populated by people with powers…

It’s weird as hell and builds to a climax that’s like Neon Genesis Evangelion humping Akira in the leg. Not a keeper, but worth watching for the hilarious opening credits alone.

Each country in this tale has its own philosophy to life, its own distinctive customs, and the anime repeatedly asks how far can you respect a country’s customs and at what point do you make a stand for your own beliefs.

Not only is it an original thriller but its also another great homage, not only to Masamune Shirow’s original Ghost in the Shell manga, but to Mamoru Oshii’s Ghost in the Shell feature length anime film. Uber fans will notice all the respectful nods to original source material immediately.

Seirei no Moribito has a very well written story, great direction and fantastic fight scenes, while bravely eschewing most anime narrative clichés as best as it can for 26 episodes. It does this because its adapted from a fantasy novel, and I hope they adapt the rest of the books in the series.
Most likely I will find myself in Auckland this year, and writing and photoblogging about my exploits is something that may happen. What will make my exploits any different than a million other blogs?

The crowd seemed to be made up mostly of teenage girls, and it was disconcerting that their loud and quite frankly obnoxious presence somehow diminished the event. Screaming whenever Ben sat down, screaming when he drank water, and yes screaming when he plucked guitar strings.

God Is An Astronaut soon after appeared in fog and silhouette and remained so for most of their set. Iconic visual presence compliment an increasingly iconic band who are still humble enough to acknowledge to the audience their surprise at having made it this far. Electronic beats flow through their music, not overtaking the proceedings like 65daysofstatic, but always an undercurrent to their trademark sound.
